In today's high technology environment, Chubb has again proved its status as the forerunner in safe development, by introducing the world's first safe made from Ellox, a material combining both burglary and fire resistance. The Planet safe is the result of an extensive Chubb research and testing programme centred around elastomer technology and development. Ellox is an extremely tough, energy absorbing polymer composite which, whilst affording excellent protection against burglary, also provides genuine resistance against fire, a threat to all organisations holding vital documents which would be difficult or impossible to replace.
Ellox is cast within moulds to very precise dimensions so that the lock and handle mountings are integrated into the door. Embedded within the material are ultra-hard nuggets, almost as hard as diamonds, which can withstand a variety of attack techniques, including disc cutters, drills, percussion tools, oxy-acetylene, acids and more traditional forms of attack. Due to its excellent resistance, the Planet has been awarded the VDMA C2F burglary label.
FIRE RESISTANCE
Whilst offering the high burglar resistance expected from Chubb, the Planet also achieved the demanding VDMA S60P fire test standard. This involved placing the Planet in a furnace preheated to 1090°C for thirty minutes before subjecting it to a 9 metre drop test to simulate the effect of a building collapsing in a fire, thus demonstrating the product's impact resistance. The Planet was then reheated for a further thirty minutes before being left to cool in the furnace. At the end of the test, the internal temperature of the safe was well below the stipulated levels and the contents were in perfect condition.
In a second test, the Planet was exposed to one hour in a furnace heated from cold to 945°C, after which the red hot safe remained in the furnace to simulate being buried in hot rubble. Again, the contents were in perfect condition.
CONSTRUCTION AND WEIGHT
Due to the strength of Ellox, the wall and door thicknesses of the Planet are not as great as those of conventional safes, thus giving a significant weight reduction. The overall wall thicknesses of 70 mm provide distinct advantages where floor loading and manoeuvrability present problems. However, its internal two point floor anchoring ensures that the safe cannot be easily removed from its final position.
FINISH AND FITTINGS
The stylish, contemporary design of the Planet is available in light grey or brown, with a textured finish to co-ordinate with any interior design theme. A range of interior fittings are available in grey melamine or cherrywood.
BASE FIXING
The Planet is prepared for base fixing to a wood or concrete floor.
LOCKING
The Planet can be fitted with single or dual locking. Each lock can be either a double bitted keylock or a keyless combination lock offering 1,000,000 different combinations.
