Description

CHUBB COMMERCE QUALITY SAFES

BURGLAR AND FIRE RESISTING
This Safe is of entirely new design and incorporates special features for protection against attack by explosives and drills.

Main features :
A hardened drill-resisting steel plate completely surrounds the Safe. This protection is embedded in the door, sides, back, bottom and top. The total thickness of the door is 61/2″ (165 mm) and of the body 4 1/2″ (114 mm).

An Emergency Re-locking Device is fitted which is on guard every time the bolts are thrown. Thus if an attempt at entry is made by explosives there is no question of this device being ” beaten ” by speed of operation. It is on guard the whole time.

The locking mechanism is so designed that there is direct locking into the bolt-throwing mechanism, plus secondary locking in the form of at least two cross-locking members, as an additional safety margin.

The door frame and locking rebates are an integral part of the body and are very strong.

This range of Safes has been evolved from the experience of over a century of safe-making and intensive testing in the light of modern conditions. The Chubb Design Team has incorporated this knowledge in an imposing Safe with an as attractive appearance as possible. The finish is in high quality enamels. Standard colours are : body, medium grey ; door and interior, light grey. Handles and furniture are chromium-plated.

SPECIFICATION

DOOR
The Door has an overall thickness of 61/2″ (165 mm). The total solid metal thickness over the lock and vital parts is 1″ (25.4 mm), which includes outer and inner plates of Tough Siemens Steel with hardened drill-resisting steel plate between.

There is a hinged fire-resisting chamber at the back of the door filled with the special CHUBB Fire-resisting Material. On Safes fitted with Key Locks this chamber is fastened by screws, but on Safes fitted with Keyless Locks it is secured by a Key Lock with duplicate keys.

The Door is hung on hardened steel pivots working in a hardened steel bearing, with the vertical thrust taken on a hardened steel washer. The hinge is of modern design.

BODY
The body has an overall thickness of 4 1/2″ (114 mm). The outer plate is formed from Tough Siemens Steel plate in two sections which, together with the Tough Siemens Steel back plate, are electrically welded to form a one-piece body. Between the outer and inner bodies of the Safe on all sides, top and bottom is the special CHUBB tested Fire-resisting Material and embedded in the thickness of the Safe completely surrounding it is hardened drill-resisting steel plate. The body is of 24 bend construction with the door surround and locking rebates an integral part, forming a very strong construction.

BOLTWORK
The door is secured into the body by (38 mm) diameter Steel Sliding Bolts at the front edge, and by fixed bolts at the back edge. The Sliding Bolts engage directly into the formed body front section. The number of bolts used varies according to the size of the safe and is never less than three each (back and front) and rises to a maximum of six each (back and front).

LOCKING
The boltwork is normally secured by a CHUBB Best Quality seven-lever Lock with monitor action and solid keys in duplicate. (Keys 21/2″ (63 mm) bit to bow and 4 5/16″ (109 mm) overall length.) Alternative lockings can be arranged, with three- or four-number Keyless Combination Locks, at an extra cost. These can be used in addition to, or in place of, Key Locks.

As a result of much experience gained from the use of explosives in the opening of safes—including methods used by burglars and in our own testing grounds—CHUBB have introduced a new type of boltwork which provides direct locking into the bolt-throwing mechanism and secondary lucking in the form of two or more cross-locking members according to size of safe.

RE-LOCKING DEVICE
An Emergency Re-locking Device is incorporated which is automatically on guard every time the locking bolts are thrown and ensures that locking is secured if the lock is dislodged by explosives or other means.

DRILLS
This Safe is completely surrounded by drill-resisting steel embedded in the door, sides, back, bottom and top and the construction of the Safe is designed to give defence in depth. The overall thickness of the door is 6 1/2″ (165 mm) and the overall thickness of the body is 4 1/2″ (114 mm).

EXPLOSIVES
An Emergency Re-locking Device is fitted which is on guard every time the bolts are thrown ; thus if an attempt at entry is made by explosives there is no question of this device being ” beaten ” by speed of operation. It is on guard the whole time.

FIRE PROTECTION
The Safe is completely surrounded by CHUBB Fire-resisting Material which has been evolved as a result of long experience of conditions in actual fires and of modern furnace tests.

A continuous series of tests are held, many of them in public, to ensure that the highest possible degree of fire protection is provided in CHUBB products. In additioc to this, CHUBB make use of independent authorities for fire testing purposes.
